There is a saying, those that can not remember history are doomed to repeat it.

Pre WW2, America was in an isolationist period. When it became impossible to remain separate from the rest of the world, America reacted but probably had a bigger obstacle to overcome. Following WW2, we have seen wars where the focus was to impede the ideological expansion of a different philosophy. Korea and Vietnam.

There is the thought to return to isolationism. What would your advice be to a future president. Their last name may be Smith, Nguyen, Hernandez, or Abdullah. This is not an Trump, Obama, Clinton, Bush, Reagan question.

How should this president approach policies when dealing with a potential expansionistic society. Does it matter if the expansionistic persuasion is coming from a militaristic force or a social force?

My advice is learn the lesson that the Middle east has taught. They broke the USSR. They have cost us dearly. We can't trust them. If you help them they will stab you in the back. Let someone else deal with them Avoid them as much as possible. Keep an eye on them. Don't turn your back on them. They are sneaky cowards who love to attack defenseless civilians. Don't antagonize them, but be prepared to reduce them to rubble if they attack.

Since WWII, America has learned that peace through strength is the only policy which guarantees its existence and, indeed, the existence of all free nations on earth. We do not desire to conquer, but to deliver hope to all those who are conquered.

There will never be a utopia on earth as long as man is the dominant species, so gird up and protect freedom at all cost, for it's much easier to protect than to regain.
