well, 2008 is over and i must say it has been a fine year indeed. finally getting over the 1000 lb hump was a nice weight to be lifted off my shoulders. it ain't easy carrying around a 1000lb chip on your shoulder. lol. got some good seeds lined up for 2009 and 2010. hoping i can get the 1385 x 1161 cross made successfully both ways. best cross on paper in my eyes for both big and heavy potential.
gonna try a new soil additive this year, activated biochar. purchased some to throw in the soil this spring when final tweaking is done. biochar results might not be seen in the first year of use, but i love the science and have to give it a try. fall additions included 250 lbs of kelp meal, 100 lbs humic acid, 100 lbs of calcite calcium, 100 lbs of k mag and 100 lbs of sulfur. these numbers are heavy on the amount side because anothe 20 yards of specialty composted cow crap will be added as well this spring. more gypsum and molasses and agro k products this spring as well and the final addition of the activated biochar. the greenhouses will then be place over the planting spots 3 weeks early to get the soil activated.
here is an old pick i found recently of my 805 from 2006. my buddy Will on the left carved it. he is a tatoo artist and did a fine job on both the design and execution.
happy new years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
