My season is fast ending. My Stidwill pumpkin is down with masive phytophthora infection. It hadn't grown for 4 days, so the plant was hauled off into the woods, hopefully never to be seen again. Unfortunately, my Rodonis plant is 10% infected and leaves are falling fast. I've trimmed as much as I could. The dry weather should help as well. The Werner plant is showing only a spot or two of damage and these have been trimmed out the best I could. I've doused with an extra spraying of Orthenex and Infuse, and sprayed a few suspicious areas with Concern, a copper fungicide. With the Rodonis plant starting to fail, and a suspicious crack developing on the Werner on the blossom end, I'm beginning to suspect I won't get to any weigh-offs this year. I'm already thinking of next year. I may cut down to 2 plants to give them more room and trim out secondaries to provide better areation. I'm thinking of growing spider patterns. I may do a soil drench next spring with Ridomil (?spelling) to help keep the phytophthora in check. Wait until next year......
