cosmo (1446) at 30 days was 119" circ. this morning and the 28 day measurement was 113" at 11:30 am so a little over 3" per day rate on a cool 56 degree night last night and a cloudy cooler day yesterday. held off watering today and misting to let the splits get some healing time. not too deep, between an 1/8th and 1/4" deep and 2 of them about 2 inches long. all have have stopped weeping and should be fine. i have seen much worse heal over in the same areas stem side. neither split goes into the stem and both are packed with captan. more surface than anything along with a couple other minor surface cracking that happens naturally . it will have to be monitred closely cuz this is one of those deep receeding stems, or more like shoulders that grow out towards the main. with as hot as it was and then the 2 inches of rain, i was lucky it wasn't a complete bust-blow out. i am not out of the woods yet and am knocking on wood and actually showing off pictures of the pumpkin on my digital camara at work to the guys who know i am nuts. still doing the opposite and talking them up instead of being hush hush. it is what is anyways so either way, what the hell. other good news, laney (997) is 20" inches today on day 8 and still growing and getting rounder now. will she abort like all the other 997s, only time will tell.
