Our plants are in the lowest part of our poperty. I think it gets a little less wind down hill. I also planted the pumkins in a hole rather than a mound. I noticed the one I planted flat on the surface of the soil was blown away. I think the hole protects the young pumpkin some. My reason started as a acident but I also think it helps keep the soil cool when it gets hot here. My soil drains fast due to it being sandy and deep.
