Joel wants to have a contest to see who grows the biggest pumpkin. One of his pumpkins is two weeks ahead of the rest of our pumpkins but I agreed. While he worked on the fence I prepared my soil for my first pumpkin. I used my homemade compost (poulty, pig, goat and horse manure mixed with alfalfa) and some store bought compost called Gardner and Bloome. It is a mixture of forest humus, chicken manure, worm castings, bat guano, gypsum, kelp, oster shell, lime and domolite limes plus mycorrhizae.
