Practicing test germinations: Filed and soaked seeds in water 48 hours ago. Planted in small pre-soaked peat pots at 6pm this evening in a moistened mix of premium seed starting Jiffy Mix. Set these in a tupperware wrapped in plastic on the computer monitor. Hope to have a heating mat for the real germinations. Donations welcome! (grin)
Starting from scratch this year here in Atlanta with many new pests and scorching heat and mildew out the gazoo, but I have hope to try for a new pb and grow my first squash.(I need to pray to the Sherwood and Hester gods a bit more maybe...(grin)). Have a small tiller, unlimited compost and just need to find or purchase some cow manure. Nothing goes in until the soil test is returned. Then I'll need advice.
So far the plan is to try the 1092 Martin. I have one seed that is cracked and should hit the ground this year, so that pretty much settles that. No backup seeds yet, but I hope that some are on the way...The squash will most likely be a Sherwood squash. If Jim sends me some 2007 hopefuls, I might plant one, or one of the older Sherwoods.
You know how it goes. Stuff happens and minds change, but this is the plan for now. Now it's time to wait for the test seeds to hopefully sprout.
Thanks again to all the growers that have welcomed me back. It has been a long 3 seasons without growing. I fell out around the end of the 2004 season but at least made it to Ludwigsburg to give away my seeds and display a pumpkin.
