I was excited to see my first female flower yesterday, although it's only about 8 feet out so it remains to be seen whether or not it will be "the one." Our Colorado weather can be SO BRUTAL- we've had temperatures in the high 90's, no rain in sight, and occasional gusting hot wind. I've managed to keep my plant from burning up by shading it in the middle of the day and making sure it has plenty of water. My lettuces are almost done, so I'm training several secondary vines to take over that bed pretty soon. It's a challenge growing a giant pumpkin in a relatively small space. Last year I did my pollination on July 9th. I think I might be a few days later than that this year- we'll see, alot can happen in 8 days!
