Well the race for the Sask. Record is over.
Due to four hairline splits in the stem joint where the stem joins to the vine I have decided on the side of caution rather than stupidity and stop all further fertilizer feedings and cut water back to 1/2 hour every other day. Once first frost arrives "Wilbour" will be cut from the vine to finish his days resting in his shade structure.
Day 44 and is at 115" circumference. I very much doubt that he will gain 32" to take the Sask. record due to the splits as he only gained 1/2" in the last 24hrs. Did relieve some stem stress further at the base, don't want to cut that secondary off as it would probably cause a surge and cause further possible cracks.
Hopefully he will go at least to 600lbs.
The pic shows his blossom end, side shot, vine relief and the pic of his cracks covered with fungicide the two that weren't where covered after the pic. Notice the very short stem about 1", this is why I deadheaded the main at the pumpkin as I don't believe (as you can see) there was any other choice.
