Took advantage of our first 4 day period without rainfall in ages. Skipped real work to work the patch. Tilled in the patch today at the deepest setting, 8". There is so much compost and leaf litter that I couldn't hit pay dirt in some areas. Worm populations seem inconsistant, but the leaves are decomposing nicely. This till should help to speed things along. Soil samples were out for today since I couldn't produce a tool that I am sure is stainless steel. But I found a place with a 3 day turnaround via email so it won't be long. It may be a year or more till my patch is tip top since there are several unique microenvironments from years of misuse. One thing for sure is my OM will be thru the roof and my soil has never been in such good shape. In the next day or two, I'll show my cards for the season, which I am now firm on.
