Last minute patch prep! Got my friend Dave over to spread the chicken manure, then mix in with the rest of the soil. Dave is the reason I am growing this year. He was shocked to hear I was having the year off. He also has a new son Jayden who is about 7 weeks older than Alex, and he was expecting a big pumpkin to get a photo with Jayden sitting on top. I couldn't let him down!
The soil looks great, full of worms and possibly a lot better than last year. All the manure is now worm castings, anything is possible...... well we'll see how they grow. The weeds were the healthiest I've ever seen! Going naked minus shade cloth this year. Risking hail damage, but have a feeling I will have a better chance of a big one. I'm sure there will be less powdery mildew in the equation!
Got a bit of work to do yet before transplanting, the soil was compacted by the machine in some places. Will loosen by hand and get the walking boards out. The chicken crap reeks, lol, hope I haven't overdone it.
