Going on gut instinct... soil isnt alive enough. Adding pine shavings and coffee grounds. I hope this has an anti-nematode and anti-disease effect compared to my usual lawnmower compost. Plenty of time to wash any excess salt or nutrients out.
It was nice to take the year off from pumpkins but I might be back at it next year. Prepping and planning begins now.
