Planting "Cover Crop"
My selected Cover Crop is the Northeast Mix of Turf grass seed by Scotts. This has worked out well in the past and other than the initial expense and need for daily watering to get it going, it does produce a nice ground cover. This not only established a different species of roots (grass being a monocot, compared to the dicot pumpkin roots) it is also easy to manage with simple mowing if it growers aggressively, and it tills fairly easily as well.
The types and percentages seem to always be changing, but in general this type of mix does well in my area and in the end the cost can be justified for the positive end result it has produced in the past.
