It's time for a weekly progress update on my backyard pumpkin. The current measurements predict a weight of 530 pounds, which is short of the winning entry at the Michigan State Fair on Tuesday evening that hit scale at 1,573 pounds. Some of the leaves are succumbing to mildew at this point -- both powdery and downy types.
We've had nights with temperatures falling into the mid-40s and that's unusual for mid-August. Somehow its created an increase in the quantity of mildew in my patch.
