Day 60: F: 2154 Sperry '23 (x M: 2670 Thompson '24)
OTT = 411" Est. Weight = 1,477 pounds Avg. over last 10 days = 26.4 pounds per day
I am happy to report the pumpkin is still growing and has maintained a gradual slowdown in average pounds per day which is encouraging to see. After the initial drop this had me a little nervous since this was also around the same time-frame when pumpkins of the past have split. However, slow and steady gains are nice to see.
Plant health still seems to be in good shape and it is great to still have a pumpkin intact and growing. The last couple years of early season splits have been quite a disappointment so hopefully this one will make it in tact and to an official scale.
It is important to remember that while this pumpkin is not on track for a world record and it is not even on track for a state record (which will likely be broken by at least one other grower) it is on track for a personal best. When looking online I think many growers immediately compare and want to beat the other person, but I think growers, (especially new growers) need to remember the true competition is with yourself. The goal should be to make improvements and outperform what you have done in the past and not get as caught up with the thought to only have a successful season if you beat everyone else.
Seeing people share ideas along with the good and bad of their season is what helps develop this supportive bigpumpkins.com community. Keep up the sharing and support and hopefully you are also on your way to a new personal best!
