I watch a few different gardening and farming channels on youtube. Once in a blue moon I will watch this guy James Prigioni. YouTube In this video he keeps it real. He talks about the discouragement that can creep in this time of year.. Lots of failures insects, disease, hungry varmints, sometimes even thieving people. It is easy to want to call it quits. We have to be able to see what is good around us and be thankful for that. Gardening at any scale is a humbling experience. Sometimes the odds feel stacked against you. For example I was out in my eating watermelon patch the other day. They are loaded up and look like they are ready to produce a record harvest for me. I was feeling pretty darn good! BUt then I get to the far end of the row and I see 2 or three melons that are torn apart and mostly consumed. The melon plalnts are also obliterated in those areas. It was a bear!! and the patch is surrounded by three electric wires! How did he get in? If I don't solve this soon, it willl be lights out for any chance of a harvest. I baited the fence with peanut butter, and I put an AM radio in the patch. Also a new battery has been ordered for my solar electric fence charger. Will this work? I sure hope so.... What are my alternatives? In this state we aren't allowed to shoot bears......After all Bears is people too! Ha Ha
