The pumpkin was in a pretty tight crotch of the main and a secondary so I've been moving those two vines out of the way, a little bit each day. Since the soil in the bed is mounded up towards the middle of the bed where the main vine is running, I was able to dig out from under the pumpkin and then temporarily support it. I plan to reduce the support underneath gradually as the pumpkin grows so its base will eventually be below the level of the vine. Saw first adult squash vine borer in the patch today so I mixed up some malathion and lightly sprayed the under carriage of the plants (vines, stems, soil). Also gave each plant a low dose of imidacloprid at main roots and along buried stem.
