In the previous post, the rows are potatoes. I have found that potatoes are surprisingly good companions for all the nuisance weeds I have. This isn't a cynical statement, I really think I can get a crop of potatoes even without diligent weeding.
I have run one drip line down the middle of the rows. I'm trying to remember to turn it on every day. (I could devote an automatic timer to this.) I think daily watering is good not only for the plants but also for the soil biology... the worms are much more active when they feel secure about their "personal moisture level." Potatoes are hungry plants... I think having the worms, etc. be active gives them a steady minimal dose of nutrients.
The Irish in me thinks growing potatoes is like art or music.
