I just got back from Durham Fair last night. I noticed the weights and number of pumpkins are down a bit from previous years. I have a theory. We will see if it plays out or not.
I think that this has been a tremendous year in terms of sunlight and warmth. In CT perhaps it was a bit on the high end for temps and many many pumpkin's have been lost because of it. If a grower was able to make it through the summer and still have a good one going come September I think that those pumpkins could be special. September has been perfect. Maybe just a couple of cool nights so far.
Some more thoughts.... Since we were a bit on the high side for temps here my thought is that perhaps.... Growers from NH, VT, or ME might really have something special. This is not based on anything I have heard from anyone... Just my thoughts. I am excited to see if this will play out or not in the weeks to come. My hope and wish is that for all growers wherever they are in the world that they get their big ones to the scale. The finish line is almost here.
