I just learned of the passing of Dave McCallum through the GPC Common Ground Newsletter and wanted to express my condolences. I had the privilege of meeting Dave 5 years ago at the GPC Big Show when it was in Ontario � though fortunately I�ve grown up since this photo was taken and the horrible braces are long gone�. Well, one evening, we found ourselves seated at the same table, and I was mentioning how I came from the neighboring province to learn all that I could about growing �the big one�. Hearing this, Dave gladly spent the large part of that evening sharing all his knowledge & expertise with me on this subject. Though I met him only once and it was many years ago, it�s impossible to forget such kind acts as this. Back then, at only 14 years of age, it was such a huge deal to me � being able to spend an entire evening talking to one of the greats � and a GPC Hall of Fame member on top of that!! The subsequent year (2018), I broke my personal best at 1369.5 pounds (my last year growing). Though I only got to know Dave over the course of a few hours, I still remember parts of that conversation 5 years later. I�m sure he made an impact on the giant pumpkin growing community larger than he ever knew. My deepest condolences to Dave�s family and to all those who got to know him throughout the years.
