I went to get the seeds out of my 250 bushel gourd yesterday. The inside was a slimy mess which makes it very easy to get the seeds out. I just put the stinky slop in a couple five gallon buckets and then mix with water. The good seeds will sink to the bottom of the watery mixture and you can pour off the rest. This year I noticed that as I got down to the seeds, I noticed most of the seeds were eaten and all that was left were a few shells and pieces. Rats or mice were climbing into the gross mixture and taking out the seeds. (I am pretty sure it was rats) The same thing happened with my 188 melon, but to a much lesser extent. The battle never stops. Every step of the growing process can be thwarted reducing your season and all your efforts down to nothing.
A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to restó
and poverty will come on you like a thief
and scarcity like an armed man.
Proverbs 6:10
