Decided to remove those large left 1st and 2nd secondaries that were attached to nothing – I couldn’t believe how much of the total area of vine they represented – almost a third on the left side! Sure not going to let THAT happen next year – remedy: bury main and connections to secondaries deeper and keep on top of matters when they poke themselves back above ground level where the vine borer wasp can find them; move the soaker hoses much further away from main stem, remove leaves around main stem to let more sun in, install a fan dedicated to mainstem. This is, no doubt, why my big guy is gain weight at a glacial rate – now about 875; 126 lbs to go by weigh-in. Photo shows a small volunteer that appeared on the stranded 1st right secondary growing off its nodal roots – no harm so I’ll leave it for now.
