Blocking Up The Main Vine
Since this pumpkin is getting so tall I need to start blocking up the main vine early to reduce the stem stress. I put bamboo stakes in an “X” pattern to help support the vine in addition to plastic flower pots to help provide support and a little upward pressure on the vine.
The positioning of the pumpkin from the vine is still good which is due to the earlier set-up when the pumpkin was smaller. With giant pumpkins it is important to try and think and plan ahead to try and reduce the potential for some problems. Often this comes with years of experience but reading diaries and making notes can help speed any growers learning curve along with taking notes and reviewing them.
