I’ve been following lobe orientation for a few years now in regards to overall pumpkin shape. I believe that how the initial flat spot forms within the first two weeks determines how gravity will settle the final shape. The board on the right is not only propping up the main vine to keep it level, but it is also tucked tightly to the pumpkin to hold the right side slightly higher until that center lobe on the bottom stays put. The wonky lobe on the left will distort the shape a bit, but you gotta take what you can get in the 150 spot. I’m looking for the two points on top to form the center hump that I like. I feel this picture is a clear representation in how the lobes correlate to ribs, and how the different sections of the pumpkin begin to form. Follow the points of the lobes outward...
