I managed to get the final of 54 tomato plants in the ground tonight. It is a day earlier than expected. Now to find the bandaid solution to the next problem...water. I can get water to the tomato garden. I was curious about the quality of water going there. I couldnt remember which box I had my old ph meter packed in so I ordered a new ph/tds meter. Since I do the winter hydro grows, a backup is not unreasonable. The new one arrived today. Testing the water straight from the well, the ph is 8.2 with high tds. I am guessing that a majority of the tds is CaCO2. I will be shooting myself in the foot trying to lower garden ph while watering with high ph. I left my phosphorous level low...I should be able to ph down with phosphoric acid. For long term...will be researching reverse osmosis units. For a planned 12,000 sq ft garden it would take, if my math is correct, about 1500 gallons per day. That is a big unit. The size of the unit is less of an issue than what to do with the grey water. I dont think my septic system would like it. This year..into storage tank, ph down and then pump to little area I have growing. Next year might be a bit more difficult.
