Friday the 13th

This is considered to be an unlucky day, so during my patch and pumpkin inspections I expected the worst. However, I am happy to report the only issue I found was a sapping stem on one of the pumpkins which, considering the heat and humidity we have been experiencing, this is to be expected on at least one plant.

All of the pumpkins are growing and they are getting close to that critical day 35 which is typically the day that an Anthesis treated pumpkin and a non-treated pumpkin growth will cross. The Anthesis treated pumpkin typically grows slower initially as the fruit spends more time in the cell division stage of growth. However, now that there is potentially more cells, Anthesis will hopefully increases the rate and duration of cell expansion which is seen from day 35 on.

This year I do not have any control (untreated) pumpkins so the hope is that each one will have extended growth late into the season. I am happy with the current estimated weights for the pumpkins ages at this point, but harvest time is still a longs ways away…
