I think I've found out how I'm getting such rapid growth on the melons. Each node has a great root system and the nodes that are not yet buried are throwing out root taps from on top of the node like kin plants do. Didn't know they did that. You can see the roots coming up from the ground due to lots of rain. Massive root system everywhere on these plants!
