Winter Rye spread on amended, tilled & raked patch.
Of course once this comes up I can't drop my last grass clippings or mulched leaves onto the oatch without damaging the Rye......so I'm back to thinking this effort is a waste of time for suburban gardeners. The leaves & grass clipping would have saved the soil & added to it at the same time.....sigh. ;o)
