This pumpkin was not suppose to be the one I took to the weigh off. The one I gave all my attention to stopped growing at around 600 pounds and this one kept growing. This was from my front yard plot. I only till up a 12x12 ft patch of dirt, throw in some compost and hope to get something over 400 pounds. A dog dug up the first plant after giving it some fish emulsion so this was the 2nd plant in this spot. Most of the plant was growing in the grass and the pumpkin ended up in the grass under the pear tree. I had to reinforce the cover over the pumpkin once the pears started to ripen and were falling on the pumpkin.
