In the 15 years that I've been alive this has been the worst thing I've ever experienced. Picking up that rotted soupy pumpkin was the worst! The smell was unbelievable! Next step on the list is the pull the weeds out then after the patch dries out a little I will loosen up the soil. ThebbI will try to plant winter rye within the next week.
