Potatoes. The 811.5 did grow over the potato vines and the potatoes were not a huge problem. They did not compete for light, and possibly they suppressed other weeds but overall there was not as much compatibility as I was hoping for. A small farm could do well to make a later planting of field pumpkins or ornamental gourds in late June or July and these could grow out over nearby rows of potatoes if an October harvest was acceptable for both this might work well.

For competitive AG's started early... it just won't work there was too much overlap in the growing season, too much mutual competition.

Maybe a short cover crop plant like white clover would be worth a try mostly just to reduce other weeds and provide benefits to the soil...?
