400 Crowell ’15 (F: 775 Berard x 669 Dill)
This seed is my red/orange selection for this year and I hope things go to plan. So far this plant has many characteristics of other strong orange colored genetics I have grown in the past. The leaves tend to be slightly larger and flatter than my other genetics. Also, the leaf morphology is less serrated than my other plants. I do not think there is anything negative about these traits but it is something that I have noticed.
While it seems the standard for comparison this time of year is main vine length, I have had plants in the past that grow a great main vine but do not ‘fill-in’, so I developed the idea of Leaf Area Estimation which is basically the area of a triangle. (This works best for the standard Christmas Tree style of pruning.) All you have to do is measure the width of the plant and the length of the main vine. Then it is simply (1/2)*(width of the plant)*(main vine length) = Leaf Area Estimation.
Leaf Area Estimation= 97.5 square feet
Main Vine Length= 13 feet
