LanTerra Update, Ketchup Journal > So one of the things I always worry about is adequate moisture levels...One of the 25 gallon pots has a sealed bottom, the plan is to allow for an in pot auto watering system for its soil. The bottom has been filled with 3" perforated drainage pipe and covered with two layers of window screen. Another 3" inch pipe is placed vertical and runs up to extend beyond the soil surface and acts as a filling pipe. The filling pipe also acts as an air pot would as it too is perforated. Two drainage holes are drilled in the pot at a level just above the top of the tubing....This allows for 3" of standing water to wick up moisture into the soil...Re filling occurs every few days as this increases the watering intervals greatly and ensures consistent moisture levels of the soil.....Flushing will have to be done weekly to control disease issues...See You Tube > self water pots.
