Well it looks like i accidentally took a picture of what i wanted to post... this is a wild cucumber plant growing at the ocean in Oregon. These plants are so healthy (and some already have spikey gherkin/cucumbers) its amazing to see these squash relatives thriving in their seemingly harsh natural environment. Certainly it can be noted from these plants thriving very near the coast that the tolerance for salt must be high, and that an acidic, sandy soil high in organics might be ideal, and that a mix of bright sun and extra misty rain is no problem.
