Today, I decided to learn and try a new technique called "chitting seed potatoes". Yes, this may seem odd and believe me, I had no idea what the phrase meant until I ran across it on an internet search. This year, I am doing a bit of container gardening, so I will show off my new grow bags shortly!! I bought late season "Gold Rush Russet" seed potatoes. I saved and cut the tops off of paper egg cartons. The process of "chitting" is to place egg sized seed potatoes (majority of the eyes up) in the egg carton cells with a bit of growing medium and in a warm dark area (65-70 degrees) for one week. Move these to a cooler area with light for about three weeks until the soil temps register 50+ degrees. Be back soon!!
