There is just something about having your prized gourd being raised high above a crowd of cheering fans. The bright lights of the Half Moon Bay media has its lure too. But for me, twice I have waited for Columbus Day and the Half Moon Bay Weigh Off, only to have my big pumpkins be bad...and if I had taken them to Elk Grove (which is always a couple weeks earlier, they most likely would have been good). I had a 448 incher in 2012 and a 452 incher in 2014. Both with defects which made them officially DMG entries.
