It's been a while!
It has been a hard set of months since I last saw a pumpkin however there have been some very big 'ups' too, namely the birth of my 2nd daughter which has brought much joy - forever smiling :)
Unfortunately, back in October 2015 we found out my childhood hero, role model who I had so much respect for and so very proud to have been able to call my Grandad had been diagnosed with cancer which put a dampener on the 2015 carving season for me. He lost his battle and was buried this week.
It was my Grandad that started everything off in the pumpkin world for me. We visited Robinson's (Mammoth onion) back in the 90's and my Grandad bought me my first pumpkin plant. The plant grew lots of foliage but no sign of a pumpkin. Halloween was approaching and still nothing to be seen. Then I noticed one of the vines had grown through the trellis fencing and into the field at the back. Jumped over the fence and parted some long grass and there was a ball of orange. That sealed it for me I was hooked! Each year we would try and grow larger than the previous and the photo here shows him with me with a 763 lb that took first place at Peterborough in 2010.
Little did I know back in the 90's that little pumpkin plant would link me up to carving pumpkins. Thank you Grandad. You will be deeply missed.
