It has been a learning experience for me with the kids. I tend to take the plant too serious with my competitive nature! lol Joshua and Andrew pretty much run over the patch daily so the dirt is compacting, they also burst a drip line and sliced it :-D The shade structure had a triple failure in 3 days. First time was my fault, second and third times were just bizarre. Let's just say the supports failed and fell due to wind and probably kids. I gotta be honest, it is a miracle of the Good Lord that plant is in one piece. The supports that fell, fell at weird angles where the plant should have been crushed twice and both times, I don't know how, it some how missed the plant, and it was close. lol Anyway, lastly, never ever use miracle grow seed starting mix. Tried it via Vince's thoughts (thanks Vince lol), it killed 2 of my 3 giant tomato plants as seedlings, and ruined my zuchini seed that sprouted, and I believe took out the 2008 neptune after it germed. Roots seem to cook. Our last remaining giant tomato was taken from us by hail two weeks ago, snapped the little stem right off. Chalk one up for el nino. But the 1491 survived the hail. Been interesting and we will see what adventure comes next. Btw, never had a shade cloth structure fail on me in all my years growing and had 3 in 3 days. :-D
