I measured the 3 biggest pumpkins this Morning. 359 Foss est. 986# gaining 10#/day. 1493 Witter-Benson est. 823# gaining 9#/day. 1989 Globus est. 802# gaining 12#/day. 137,5 Ansems long gourd 74" long and still skinny. The weight of the vines is bending the cattle panes so I have it supported with a 10' board. Hopefully I will need to dig a deep hole again unless I can get the panel raised up more. Next year I will make more improvements on the trellis. We also have one growing on my 129 McWilliams. It set much lower on the trellis so I hope we have do dig half way to China for this one. It might get into the sand layer and the water table from the creek.
We have some great field pumpkins going but they are full of PM. I keep spraying milk and Daconil. A little is getting on the AG's but its not spreading. I sprayed bifenthrin for cucumber beetles 2 days ago but they are still flying around. I have a different spray to use tonight after the bees are gone. The rabbits got another watermelon. I put out fox urine yesterday and blood meal and garlic today. Jacob and I do a daily patrol to keep the weeds and vines off the electric fence. It stops the groundhogs, coons and deer, but the rabbits just run right through it. Tomorrow morning some of them will get high speed lead poisoning.
The weather has been hot and humid. Highs near 90, lows in mid 60's. Sunday we are supposed to get rain and then cool down to normal. We need a little rain. I watered some this morning and have the garbage cans filled to warm up for evening watering.
