Downy Mildew on Cucumbers “Classic Look”
Odds are if you have grown cucumbers you have seen your leaves look like this at some point. This is what Downy Mildew looks like in an almost ideal, straight out of a textbook picture. What makes downy such a challenge is that there are six different strains and fortunate for us pumpkin growers, there are some strains our plants are naturally resistant to. However, cucumbers are susceptible to all six strains. So, you can use cucumber plants as an indicator but not necessarily a sure sign that your pumpkin plants will be infected. This year, in my local area there has been high downy mildew pressure and as a result some plantings have been going down in as little as 10 days which is not uncommon for this disease given the right conditions.
