Cutting the stem August 7, 2014 reveals 50 DAP gestation for my giant. It was done growing, the stem became soft, mushy, and rotting from the inside. When I cut the stem, there was no water beads forming, showing no transpiring movement. Hopefully competition genetics will enable me more days of growth, though the heat of August perhaps will not permit more. I will have to discuss this logic more with you guys to gain some insight, and adjust my planting dates accordingly.
