The season is done for me. Got to see several old friends and made a few new ones at the weigh-offs this year. No new PB to the scales in the watermelon or AG classes but I learned a lot once again. Still plenty of questions yet to get answered like the one this melon re-triggered. How is it that this melon had so little air and many of the others on the same line of drip-tapes had more than their share? This one is closely related to the solid melon I had in a previous post. It was cut open a minimum of 5 weeks after its stem died. It was weighed on 9/3 and still very little air. It's now the 169 Cantrell 13 (157 Bright 04 x Self). Unofficially I taped it at 151 lbs. at weigh-off time. It was not measured at the weigh-off. I used this plant to pollinate my best melon of the year which is now the 188 Cantrell 13 (199 Cantrell 12 x 157 Bright 04). It's seldom works out that you can get the 2 largest crossed when you have 12 plants. I'll give them both a chance in the future.
