Some research indicates that squash bugs may search out a less preferred food source (watermelons)or a hiding place up to 120 days prior to cold weather if no food source is available. With that in mind and the rate at which I'm pulling vines I've decided to start some AG's for a bait crop. I'll simply plant them where the others were. I've also wondered if you can direct plant the seeds in such a manner as to get the first true leaf on the side that you want it. It would make life easier in a genetics/commercial patch to direct seed and control vine direction.
