This is a 'Shintosa Camelforce' squash plant. It is an intergeneric f1 hybrid commonly used as a rootstock for grafting watermelons in Asia. I think it is a C. maxima x C. moschata hybrid cross. I didn't know you could do that? Anyhow I am growing one out to see what the fruit look like and to possibly see how the f2 offspring work for grafting next year. Dennis Masterson was kind enough to get me some seeds, I know they were not easy to find.
This plant is growing entirely on a pile of compost. The roots spread out across the whole pile! I didn't know they would do that. It makes me realize how compacted my regular soil is for the 'Atlantic Giants'. I will have to work on that for next year.
