In the patch it’s just not happening this year and despite our best efforts I think we will only have three pumpkins that might make the 1000lb mark if we’re lucky. At the moment our feelings are that the pollinations have been the main problem this year. We’ve see pumpkins abort at 50lb plus before but never so many. If it is a pollination problem it’s very good news because we can do something about it in the coming years. It’s identifying these sort of problems that can be the hardest thing of all. To be fair although we might have had problems with heat on some days we’ve had the wettest three months on record which will not be helping. Here is a typical aborted pumpkin on the 1404
