1st time Ive dug pits around the planting area...I went 3 ft around and 3 ft deep..filled with compost and patch soil..a little calcium nitrate and Mychorizhea..Glad I did it because I did hit a layer of rock hard clay compaction at 12 inches..once I loosened it up stump will be able to room freely down at least 3 ft. I'll transplant Wednesday next week..
