its not like me to post so many times in such a short time, but im doing this for next years grow. today/lastnight we had a storm over us, lots of big wind and rain. have been worried about the vine and potential damage. so after work i had a good look and noticed that the pumpkins are visually bigger than yesterday. the smaller one put on 4 inches cc and the bigger one 5 inches. which is great news but is making me wonder. is it the reduced sunlight that is enhancing growth? we have extreme uv in NZ and i think that under full sun the growth is reduced. i put a kilo of mineral fert down yesterday but i dont think that it can work that fast. and i always water the vine, so its not the extra water from the rain that added 4in in one day.
im guessing that warm wet overcast days is the reason.
im thinking of making a 20% shade cover for next year. here is a photo of our weather system the red arrow is us.
