This was taken from the northeast looking southwest. I've been doing alot of reading about the "ideal soil" and looking at the results of my soil test from last spring my catio exchange capacity (cec) was only an 8. I've done the jar thing to bounce the result of off the soil test which indicated "loamy sand".
So with all the wisdom I've gathered over the winter (and I hope this doesn't come back to haunt me) I decided it would be best if I double dig.....for two reasons.
1. Cation Exchange Capacity (Clay have a higher cec) 2. Rototilling only goes but so deep and pumpkin roots do.
By doing this I hope....I pray my soil test comes back with a slightly higher cec because of a decent amount of soil being brought back up. So if you know something different about doing this, I hope you didn't cringe....LOL
