so here is a close up of the damage. i took this photo after i cut away the rot, but before 1 hour of surgery..... that photo will come next week.
at this point i started to cut away carefully the rot, and i sprayed fungicide into the hole... it turns out the inside of the vine is like bamboo .... hollow and the rot was going both ways! left and right. luckily this node is downhill from the left and right, so what i sprayed in flowed out.
then i sprayed pesticide in left and right.... and.... horror!... lots and lots....like millions of tiny white wormy things came flowing out, and then Beatles and then earwigs.... it was a hotel of pests.
so i kept on spraying and putting tubes in to flush out the bugs.

since then.... i have kept an eye on things and the hole is starting to callous over and heal. so far things are improving ..... for how long i have no idea, but will post a photo of the healing vine in a few days to compare the before and after.

ps.
several weeks ago i tapped that section of vine with my boot and noticed a tiny split.... like 5mm. i thought the vine will heal over...... that was the entry point this this problem.
