Mary Day 45 today, circumference of 127 inches, OTT of 283 inches. Estimated weight of 482 lbs., still growing at the same pace. The dome over this plant has torn wide open at one end and will definitely be ripped off the rest of the way by Irene this weekend. I spent this evening throwing ropes over the other dome, which contains the 3 giant pumpkins, to tie down the row cover so it doesn't flap around in the wind. The looser the row cover is, the more susceptible it is to ripping, and by this point in the year it has stretched and is not as tight as it was in the beginning. If I can get it to survive tropical storm force winds, that will be a major accomplishment and will save my plants' leaves. We're going to get a lot of rain, but it's the wind that can really do damage. Fingers and toes will all be crossed for this one.
